George "The Iceman" Gervin was one of my favorite basketball players of all time. The cat's game was so smooth and slick. George had that awesome finger roll that like nobody could stop. In his rookie season of 1972 he was an ABA All-Rookie Team member. He was a 3-time ABA All-Star and a 2-time ABA All-Pro Team member. In January 1974, Hall-of-Famer George Gervin became a Spur under bizarre circumstances. The situation involved ABA Commissioner Mike Storen, Spurs' owner Angelo Drossos, countless lawyers, a group of Virginia businessmen, and a federal judge. David King recounts the struggle in his article, "Iceman didn't cometh too easily - Owner's will, federal judge finally made Gervin a Spur." The man would go on to mega NBA stardom but will always be remembered as one of the coolest brothers to ever play in the ABA.
