Artis Gilmore is one of the greatest players in the history of the ABA. Gilmore may have had the greatest combination of size, speed, sideburn and afro ever. He was the ABA Rookie of the Year in 71-72 and on the ABA All-Rookie Team in 1972. Artis was the ABA League MVP in 71-72. He also led the ABA in Field Goal Percentage in 71-72 and 72-73. Led the ABA in Rebounds 4 times: 71-72 (17.8 rpg), 72-73 (17.5 rpg), 73-74 (18.3 rpg), and 75-76 (15.5 rpg). Artis holds the ABA All-Time Career Field Goal Percentage with a .557 mark. Another record is the ABA All-Time Leader for Blocked Shots in a career with 750 and in one season with 287 in 73-74 campaign. He beat the piss out of the New York Nets to become the ABA All-Time Leader for Rebounds in 1 game with 40 vs. New York on 2-3-74. 5-Time member of ABA All-Pro team. Gilmore was the leader in style and overall play of the 74-75 Kentucky Colonels Championship team. Gilmore was a unanimous selection to ABA 30 Man All-Time Team. While his afro alone was selected to the ABA 30 Man All-Time Honorable Mention Team all by its self.
