Darnell Hillman

Darnell Hillman was one of the most popular players in the long and rich history of the ABA. Originally drafted by the San Francisco Warriors in the first round of the 1971 NBA Draft, 8th overall, Darnell became a defensive force in the ABA. As a rookie Hillman showed a fierce ability to out rebound even the biggest players the ABA had to offer. Though listed at 6' 9" many believed 7 inches of that was afro, which made his rebounding prowess even more impressive. In his playing days with Indiana, fans would show up early to watch his warm-up dunks, coining his kick ass nickname "Dr. Dunk". Voted the runaway winner of the "ABA's Biggest Afro" Award at the ABA Reunion in 1997 was definitely the greatest accomplishment Darnell ever achieved in his phenomenal pro basketball career.
